Protohunter 2 year Anniversary - FREE TO PLAY
Hi and welcome to a new Developer update.
I've sort of consolidated these post to be weekly tweets about what I've been up to. Its hard updating people with so much every week. I'm not exactly a big studio. Just 1 guy. You can usually find those updates on #TempoTuesday on twitter. Sort of like a "This Week at Tempo Interactive"
But this post isn't about that.
Today, we celebrate Protohunter's 2 year anniversary!
I wasn't planning on making this a postmortem. But its gonna come off as that, because I really wanted more from this project. But a lack of practical experience in certain fields prevented that from happening.
I mean like I started this project in 2019, just coming off an internship. So back then, I was definitely short on experience. This game taught me a lot. How I could definitely optimize my own artwork a bit more. If you've been watching my work from 2021, I've only gotten better at this. Thanks to Protohunter and the creation of Unreal Marketplace assets. Thats really what I've been up to for the past year or two.
I wanted Protohunter to be an extravagant sci-fi adventure where you explored why and where these mysterious energy based lifeforms and Mutants came from. Why does it seem like they're learning? Is someone helping them?
And while I'll love to come back to it someday, right now, its just not possible.
Cotak, who is in the main menu, pointing a gun at the Gold Hunter. Holding a sword that just isn't in the game and is even watching the Hunters from a far in 2 of the 3 Maps in the game, sadly never got past much of his development.
The plan was to create a brief story mode where you play as him and it ends with a level as the Protohunter in the final showdown. The Forest that I had been teasing since it's initial release. His gameplay would have differed from the Hunters. As he would use that Sword and his Sidearm has his primary and secondary attacks. Sadly, I never got to accomplish this.
I have most of the animations I need already made. Which is why I'm so disappointed.
But now to the Big News!
After 2 Years, Protohunter Anniversary Edition arrives and is now FREE TO PLAY
Enjoy the game solo or bring in friends via lan party.
My only wish right now is that someone can enjoy this game. Because for a long time, I feel I've neglected it. Despite all the work I've put into it. I'm still proud of what I did. In retrospect; I did what I could with the limited experience I had 2 years ago and with limited hardware no less.

For now, this very much is the final update. Its been a great 2 Years. I truly mean that.
